Abdominal Surgery

Common operations include gall bladder surgery, hernia repairs, peritoneal dialysis catheters and benign liver cysts. You will have an intravenous cannula placed at the start. For operations which tend to be quite painful, you may receive a spinal anaesthetic prior anaesthesia to help reduce your pain post-operatively. Depending on your other health conditions, you may get additional monitoring such as an arterial cannula for sampling and blood pressure monitoring.

After the operation you will wake up in the operating room before being transferred to the recovery room. You will receive a pain relief regime including oral or intravenous medications along with anti nausea medications and other medications as required.
